Legend says coffee was discovered in Ethiopia. Kaldi, an Ethiopian goat herder is said to have discovered the coffee bush after watching his goats from it. After eating the red fruits from the coffee bush, the goats were said to have become very energetic. As the story goes, Kaldi reported his findings to the local monastery. The discovery was deemed the work of the devil and the bush was to be burned. As the bush was burned the beans were roasted. The monk then ordered the ashes to be soaked to preserve the smell. After drinking the liquid they were overcome with a sense of calm and a renowned sense of focus. They then reported their findings and thus coffee was born. We now have a much more refined process for grinding and roasting beans, but this is a fun story nonetheless.
