Brazil is the leading exporter of coffee in the world, producing around 1/3 of the world’s coffee. Coffee grows best near the equator due to the warm and rainy climate. This region is referred to as the coffee belt. Many countries contribute to the world’s coffee production, but Brazil leads them all, exporting over 30 million bags of coffee annually. Although Brazil exports a tremendous amount of coffee, there is a lot of loss due to bugs and disease. It is estimated that Brazil loses nearly $300 million of coffee due to bugs/beetles.
